God Of Nullagyratus Postmortem
Hey everyone! This is our first postmortem for our latest game: God of Nullagyratus
Let’s start with some context:
This game was created for Boss Rush 2025, which had the theme "Spin". From there, our minds started spinning (literally) with ideas, and we landed on the concept of a rotating dial that generates the necessary combinations to defeat the boss. During our research, we came across a puzzle in Signalis that really caught our attention, and it became one of our main inspirations. By combining the dial mechanic with Signalis’ aesthetic and overall vibe, God of Nullagyratus was born ✨.
Development Stages:
Once we had our core idea, we started brainstorming and came up with a concept featuring 3 bosses and 5 planets. Spoiler alert: that never actually happened due to time constraints 😅. We initially had all 5 planets and 3 "bosses", but "bosses" is a bit of a stretch since, at that stage, they were just greyboxes with basic behaviors. We sent this early build to some testers for concept feedback, and the verdict was clear: 5 planets felt like too much. It was overwhelming and didn’t make for a smooth player experience.
At that point, we also realized that creating three fully modeled bosses in time just wasn’t going to happen. So, to prioritize polish, we merged all three bosses into a single boss with three distinct phases based on the original behaviors.
With that settled, we focused on refining the experience, integrating UI and sound to make the game as immersive and polished as possible within the remaining time. We also made sure to add a tutorial, so players could easily adapt to the controls and enjoy the game even more!
